Are you itchy?

I found that mosquito bites and sins have several similarities.

The early stage of a mosquito bite is simply a tiny bite that barely shows up on your skin, yet it demands you to compromise your attention, time, and energy, to satisfy its need, just a little bit – scratch it. As soon as you compromise and give it a little scratch to satisfy its need, it swells up and becomes visible to others. A mosquito bite once only you know is now exposed and displayed for everyone else to see. As it is exposed, even when others advise us not to scratch, it is ultimately our mental battle with mosquito bites. Not only the lie that scratching can satisfy the itchiness comes onto the surface, the continuous of demanding more satisfaction seems to be irresistible as it gets bigger and bigger. It’s difficult to stop the itchiness (and hence the scratching) until the surface skin peeled off and the wound starts to bleed, then we would realize how stupid we have been and we need to stop scratching. Who knows whether that mosquito carries viruses, you might die because of it!

Sin, on the other hand, is very similar. Though in the early stage it might seem insignificant and unnoticeable, once we begin to compromise, it continues to demands more, asking for more compromises. Once a personal sin would then become known to everyone else. Friends and family become concerned and suggest resisting the temptations, yet it is still own personal battle with our sin. Some might not understand the seriousness of it, or simply disregard the possible consequences, and continue to compromise and feeds off its demands; regardless, harms and hurts become reality as a result. These harms and hurts might be temporary and physical, but it can also be long-lasting and emotional, and in the more severe cases, physical and spiritual death.

How to prevent it? Well, in both cases, we need to know the causes behind in order to prevent them from happening. Be cautious with what we are exposed to and where we are. Can we play a part in prevention? Sure we can! Get to know how we can prevent them from the expert, God! And even if we do get those bites, we have a hope, a hope that our wounds will be completely healed and gone one day, that Christ has prepared and executed the treatment, that God is sovereign and victorious over them. We can also obtain temporary treatment and not by our own power (I sure hope none of us would invent our own anti-itchy cream and mosquito bites ointment….), and all we need to do is ask and it will be given to us. Though treatment might be difficult and painful, we have the peace and joy that come from the one who owns it all.

Anyways, don’t underestimate mosquito bites; they can cost your life!

Oh, and STOP SCRATCHING!
